Terms of Service & Disclaimer
Effective Date: 03/01/2026
These Terms of Service and Disclaimer (“Terms”) govern the use of services provided by Northeast Birth Doula (“the Practice,” “Provider,” or “Doula”). By engaging services, scheduling consultations, or entering into a service agreement, clients acknowledge that they have read, understood, and agreed to these Terms.
Nature of Services
Northeast Birth Doula provides non-medical birth doula support services only. Services are educational, emotional, and practical in nature and are intended to support the birthing person and their family before, during, and shortly after labor.
Northeast Birth Doula is not a medical practice, healthcare provider, or clinical service. No medical advice, diagnosis, treatment, medication administration, or medical consultation is provided. Clients must seek and follow guidance from licensed healthcare professionals, including physicians, midwives, nurses, or other qualified medical providers.
Certification and Scope
Services are provided by a solo certified birth doula practitioner operating within the professional scope of doula care. All support methods, processes, and service protocols are standardized, documented, and based on recognized doula support practices.
Client Responsibility for Health and Medical Care
The health, medical care, and clinical outcomes of the birthing person and baby remain solely the responsibility of the client and their chosen healthcare providers. Northeast Birth Doula does not assume responsibility for medical decisions, complications, emergencies, or health-related outcomes.
Service Packages, Rates, and Modifications
Service plans, packages, and pricing structures are standardized and pre-established. Clients may customize their final package by adding or removing agreed services prior to final confirmation. Any changes must be documented and mutually agreed upon.
Payments and Refund Policy
All service fees are considered earned upon reservation of availability and commitment to service timelines.
No refunds are provided once services have been booked or a service agreement has been executed, except in cases where Northeast Birth Doula cancels services and is unable to provide agreed support.
Communication and Availability
Clients may contact the Provider as needed in accordance with the service agreement and support timeline. All communications, including calls, messages, emails, and consultation notes, may be documented and securely stored for record-keeping, service coordination, quality assurance, and safety purposes.
Safety of Service Environment
Clients are responsible for ensuring that any home, residence, clinic, hospital, or birth location is reasonably safe and free from hazards that could pose a risk to the Provider.
The personal safety and wellbeing of the Provider during home visits or onsite support are the responsibility of the client.
Northeast Birth Doula reserves the right to modify, pause, or discontinue services if an environment is deemed unsafe, hostile, or inappropriate.
Limitation of Liability
While every effort is made to provide compassionate and reliable support, Northeast Birth Doula does not guarantee specific birth experiences or outcomes. Services are provided in good faith and within professional doula scope. To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, the Practice shall not be held liable for indirect, incidental, medical, or consequential outcomes related to pregnancy, labor, delivery, or postpartum circumstances.
Professional Boundaries
Services are limited to doula-appropriate roles and do not include clinical tasks, medical procedures, transportation responsibilities, childcare duties, or household services unless specifically outlined in writing.
Policy Updates
These Terms may be updated periodically to reflect changes in business operations, professional standards, or legal requirements. Continued engagement in services indicates acceptance of the most current version.
